Nasira Zarina Jackson

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, mother, sister, granddaughter, and friend, Nasira Zarina Jackson, age 23.

Nasira was born on August 7, 2003, in Hampton, Virginia, to her mother, Lindsay Wrenn Shaw, and her father, Brian Allen Jackson. Growing up as part of a military family, Nasira experienced a childhood filled with change and adventure, moving to numerous locations and making memories along the way.

Nasira attended Princeton High School in North Carolina, where she was a member of the 2019–2020 Track and Field team. After graduating, she held several different jobs and most recently worked as a driver for Amazon.

Nasira was a quiet person with a quirky personality and a spirit that was uniquely her own. She marched to the beat of her own drum and never felt the need to follow the norms. She was comfortable being herself and had a way of doing things that was uniquely Nasira. Those who knew her will remember her for her individuality, her quiet presence, and the little things that made her unmistakably herself.

Among Nasira’s favorite things were going to the beach and spending time with her beautiful daughter, Dalila Zarina Jackson. Her daughter was one of the greatest joys in her life. The bond they shared and the love Nasira had for Dalila will forever remain an important part of her story and her legacy.

Nasira leaves to cherish her memory her beloved daughter, Dalila Zarina Jackson; her mother, Lindsay Wrenn Shaw; her father, Brian Allen Jackson; her stepmother, Avita Jackson, who lovingly helped raise her alongside her father; her sisters, Asalah Shaw and Kamilah Jackson; her loving uncle, Eliot Moncrief; her grandparents, Mary Betts of Hubbard, Ohio, and Chris and Marie Shaw of Thompson’s Station, Tennessee; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her beloved grandfather, Pellum Lee Moncrief, who affectionately called Nasira “his buddy.” That special name reflected the love and bond they shared.

Though Nasira’s life was far too short, she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever. Her unique spirit, her quirky personality, her love of the beach, and the love she shared with her daughter and family will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

In Lieu of Flowers

In accordance with the family’s wishes and due to the circumstances surrounding Nasira’s passing, there will be no viewing or traditional funeral service. The family appreciates the understanding and respect of those who wish to honor Nasira’s memory during this difficult time.

We know many will wish to send flowers as an expression of their love and sympathy. While the gesture is deeply appreciated, flowers are not necessary at this time.
