Randy was born on November 13, 1952, in Louisville, Kentucky to Benjamin and Mary Alice Schaffner. After graduating from Butler High School in 1970, he went on to study Business and graduated from the University of Louisville in 1974. He married his high school sweetheart in 1972 and they had two children, Nathan and Andrea. He worked for a short time in Louisville at International Harvester. In 1980 he moved his family to Houston, Texas where he spent the rest of his career working in the oil and gas industry. He retired in 2019 to allow himself more time with his family.
Randy enjoyed playing golf with friends, attending Nathan’s tennis matches and watching multiple sports on TV - especially his alma mater – the Louisville Cardinals. But, his first love was enjoying time with his kids and grandkids. He was never short on words about all the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren!
He is preceded in death by his father, Benjamin H. Schaffner. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Debra Schaffner, his children Nathan Schaffner (Mandy) and Andrea Phillips (Brian), and his five grandchildren, Colin, Lauren, and Lexi Schaffner and Sawyer and Sutton Phillips. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Alice Schaffner and his brother, Brad Schaffner (Donna).
We will miss his robust and fun-loving personality, his love of life and his yelling at the referees on the television, but we all know that he is with his Lord and Savior and will forever remain in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at 3 p.m. at Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, Texas. The family would like to invite those in attendance to remain afterward for a light reception at the funeral home.
