Rodney was born December 9, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Ok. Rodney attended Northwest Classen High School where he ran track and met his wife Lenora. After High School, he attended Central State College for a semester before entering the U.S. Navy in the summer of 1966. After boot camp, his first tour of duty was in Vietnam building roads and airstrips as part of the SeaBee’s (Construction Battalion). For his 2nd and 3rd tours, Rodney volunteered to go to the South Pole where he built roads and facilities in support of scientific research. After his service to his country, Rodney attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated in 1973 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Rodney began his career with Williams Brothers Engineering in Tulsa, Oklahoma and later was employed with Fluor Daniel Engineering, where he worked until he retired in 2009.
Rodney’s travels took him all around the world, having lived and worked on all 7 continents. His interests and hobbies included the banjo, collecting rare books, sailing and camping with his family. But his greatest passion was restoring antique British sports cars.
Rodney enjoyed scouring the automotive classified’s, kicking tires, attending car shows & swap meets and tinkering with any car that passed through his garage. In this regard, he is survived by a 1958 MGA, 1967 MGB GT and a 1953 Austin Healey 100-4, his last projects.
Rodney is preceded in death by his mother, Irene Browning. He is survived by his father, Philip Browning and wife Sue Browning of Winslow, Arkansas; his brother, Dan Browning and wife Kim Browning of Winslow, Arkansas; his sister, Sharon Motley and husband Phillip Motley of Choctaw, Oklahoma; and his brother, Steve Browning of Phoenix, Arizona.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Lenora Browning of 48 years, his son, Robert Eugene Browning and wife Stephanie Browning of Kaufman, Texas; his daughter, Elizabeth Anne (Browning) Gunn and husband David Gunn of Katy, Texas; his son, William Russell Browning and wife Andrea Robben Browning of Seattle, Washington; his five grandchildren, Avery Browning, Jacob Gunn, Noah Gunn, Evelyn Browning and Asa Browning, and his dog “Healey”.
