Ruth Violeta Cardenas

Ruth Violeta Cardenas was born April 24, 1927, in Tumaco, Colombia and died December 8, 2023, in Houston, Texas. Ruth grew up in Tumaco with her parents, three sisters and four brothers. This is where she learned to love cooking while assisting her mother. She attended a catholic school where she developed a love for foreign languages, mathematics, acting, singing, poetry, and dancing. During her time off from school, she enjoyed vacationing at her father’s farm with her brothers and sisters.

After graduating, Ruth became a teacher until the family moved to Cali where she met Jose Cardenas, who at the time lived in Bogota. This led to a romance in the distance. After he won her heart, they got married and had seven children. Jose built their house in Cali where Ruth was dedicated to him and their children. With the help of her mother and her sisters, Ruth was able to work as a salesperson and later she became a proud owner of a small business.

Most will fondly remember Ruth for her joyful presence and the warmth she imparted to those around her. She was very sociable, and she especially enjoyed children. She greatly rejoiced in the birth of her sons and daughters, grandkids, and great grandchildren, as well as in their accomplishments.

To say she will be missed is an understatement, but one day all will rejoice with her. Joy fills the hearts of those who love her in knowing that she is reciting poems, singing, and dancing. Hugs go to Ruth from her sons, daughters, grandkids, great grandchildren, sisters, and friends today and every day.

There will be a viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, TX 77494. The funeral service will be followed by a funeral procession to the cemetery and the burial at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX. The pallbearers are Edison Cardenas, Jose de Jesus Cardenas, Alfredo Cardenas, Julian Mauricio Becerra, Amir Ahmadi, and Bryan Cardenas.
