Sally grew up in the Dallas area with her siblings, Susie, Denise, and Danny, until the age of 10, when her family moved to Houston. There, they welcomed her youngest sister, Julie.
She built a fulfilling career at Gibraltar Insurance, where she served as the Vice President of Special Projects. She was a true jack-of-all-trades, managing everything from accounting to assisting the company president. Her work ethic and dedication left a lasting impact on those she worked with.
Outside of her career, Sally’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She loved gardening and took great pride in working on her yard. She delighted in hosting family gatherings, especially Christmas Eve celebrations, where her warmth and hospitality brought everyone together. A devoted sports fan, she cheered passionately for the Houston Texans and the Astros. Guided by her strong faith, she also found comfort in collecting angel knickknacks—a reflection of the angelic spirit she embodied in life.
Best known for her boundless generosity and kindness, Sally was more than just a loving mother to her daughters, Mary and Heather; she was a second mother to many. Her door was always open, offering a safe haven filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Her wisdom, strength, and nurturing spirit created a home where all felt welcome.
After tragically losing her husband, on May 30, 2015, she married the love of the rest of her life, Lanny Barbee, in a beautiful ceremony in Jamaica. Lanny and Sally spent nine years together prior to their marriage. Their love was a testament to companionship, devotion, and the joy of sharing life’s journey together alongside their beloved dog Izzy.
Sally was preceded in death by her mother, Carol Jean Sherwood; father, James Freeman Hale; daughter, Mary Cupples; stepson, Tyler Barbee; sister, Denise Guidry; and Heather’s father, Danny Holder.
She is survived by her loving husband, Lanny Barbee; her daughter, Heather Boise; sisters, Susie Carol Harrell and Julie Ann Chapman, brother, Danny Lee Hale; sons-in-law, Chris Boise and Ryan Steinbrunner; daughters-in-law, Ali Steinbrunner and Alaina Barbee; and her cherished grandchildren, Michael Whitemyer, Shea Whitemyer, Cameron Cupples, Valkyn Villa, Dominic Barbee, Avery Boise, Kinley Boise, Luca Steinbrunner, and Cora Steinbrunner.
In honor of Sally’s giving nature, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization that reflects her lifelong spirit of generosity and care for others.
