Sam was born on April 17, 1971 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Ngoc Anh Le and Samuel Kersey II. He spent his early years in Philadelphia. After the passing of his father, he moved to Texas with his mother and stepfather Bach Truong, where he spent the rest of his life. On March 20, 2004, he married Michele Vasichek at Grace Presbyterian Church in Houston, TX. In 2015, Sam and Michele realized their dream of having a family when they adopted Chaffon, Coty, and Mary.
Sam was a product of Alief ISD, graduating from Elsik HIgh School in 1989. After attending Wharton Junior College, he worked in the restaurant business and for Bank of America. He then found his true calling in IT and began working for Global Healthcare Alliance, where he was instrumental in the growth of the company and fine-tuning their IT department to contribute to the company’s exponential growth. In 2023 he began working for Service Corporation International, where he was the Manager of Business Applications Support. Sam absolutely loved SCI and worked for them until the minute he could work no more.
Sam was the King of Hobbies, and he dived straight into them – including bowling, golfing, shooting, biking, gaming, bbq-ing, motorcycling, t-shirt making, moonshine brewing, cryptocurrency mining, and his current passion - football card collecting. In addition, he and his brother Steve were going to start vodka infusing. Most of all, Sam loved people, and was passionate about creating opportunities for people to get together, whether through neighborhood cookouts, house and lawn concerts, work team outings, or family events. He was notorious for inviting more people than the dwelling or space could hold. In addition, he was a passionate – and picky – foodie who found joy in eating, cooking, and restaurant exploring. Sam was also a prankster – and for anyone who was the victim of his pranks, they knew they were loved. He was a master gift-giver who Christmas-shopped all year and celebrated when he found the perfect gift for someone.
Above all, Sam was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, favorite “funcle,” neighbor, and friend. His greatest joy was being around his family and friends. He left a lasting impact on this world and will be missed forever.
Sam is survived by his wife Michele; sons, Chaffon (Jenny), Coty, and favorite daughter Mary (Shon Price); siblings Lea Millner, Son Le, Ha Le, Trang Le, Emiley Hendrix, and Steven Kersey; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews who adored him; Michele’s extended family; his hood family on Founding Drive; and his furry soulmate, Junior.
Sam was preceded in death by his mother, father, and stepfather; brothers-in-law, Victor Hendrix and Hue Tran; and nieces, Jennifer Le and Josie Greenwood.
Sam’s Celebration of Life will be held at Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Boulevard, on Thursday, November 20. Visitation will begin at 4:00, with a service following at 7:00.
Per Sam’s wishes, please come dressed comfortably in your favorite band, team, school, silly, souvenir, sentimental, or unique (or even plain) t-shirt or sweatshirt, along with comfortable shoes. This is one of the greatest ways you can honor him.
