Born in China, Shein studied at National Taiwan University before coming to the United States.
Shein graduated with a PhD in Physics from Cornell University and continued his Post Doctoral work in Canada. When he moved to the United States, he found his calling in geophysics, first working at the Colorado School of Mines and then continuing on to various oil companies that provided him opportunities to live in Colorado, Oklahoma and finally Texas.
Shein is survived by his wife Yah Shy and children Elizabeth and Frank. Closest friends will remember Shein fondly for his love of gardening, music, singing, and Go.
