Sherwood Dobois Johnson III, lovingly known as “Tre” was born and raised in Houston, Texas, where he was known for his kind heart, respectful mannerisms, politeness, and unforgettable smile. He graduated class of 2025 from Paetow High School and later worked at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in housekeeping and maintenance. Most recently, he was excited to begin a new opportunity in the security field, a step he looked forward to with great enthusiasm and determination.
Sherwood was a very loving son and proudly known as a true “Mama’s boy.” As his friends often said, “He didn’t play about his Moma.” He loved deeply, protected fiercely, and carried himself with warmth and loyalty toward those he loved.
Music, especially rap, was one of Sherwood’s greatest passions. He was extremely talented and ambitious about his craft, pouring his heart into every lyric and dream he chased. Outside of music, Sherwood had recently embraced a new lifestyle focused on peace, growth, and health. He found joy in growing his own fruits, vegetables, and herbs, and he took pride in learning and building something meaningful for himself and his future. He was also working on strengthening his relationship with God and finding greater purpose in life.
Sherwood loved his pets, Duchess and D’Usse, and enjoyed spending time doing the things that brought him peace and happiness. His favorite colors were purple and blue, reflections of both his vibrant spirit and calm nature.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ruth and Willie B. James; stepfather, Calvin Mitchell; Maternal great grandparents, Violet B and Willie B Goodman, Paternal great-grandfather, L.C. Smith.
Sherwood leaves to cherish his memory of his parents Shantel Manning and Sherwood D. Johnson Jr., stepmother, Melissa Johnson, grandparents, Doris and Sherwood Johnson. Siblings: Dominique Fischer, Samuel Jones Jr., Shala Jones, Brionna Hunt, Ocean Lockett-Ward, Andrew Johnson, Alayna Johnson, Samantha Hammock, and sister-in-law Andrea Williams.
Sherwood was a proud uncle to I’Yhana Robinson, Isaiah Fischer, Marrex Jones, Aunesti Jones, and Larry Williams III, with two nieces on the way, Soule` Ward and Anisa Jones behind.
He is lovingly remembered by his aunts and uncles: Lashonda Johnson, Tony Mendenhall, Sherwood Johnson, Louis Dixon, Silvia Murdock, Linda Sanchez, Diane Smith and Natasha Jolivette-Pratt (Sam).
Sherwood also shared an unbreakable bond with his closest friends, whom he loved dearly: Conner Jolivette, Dylan Jolivette, I’Yana Roberts, Dayana Roberts, and Jayden Boutte.
And one thing everyone knew for sure — nobody was allowed to touch Sherwood’s hair except his favorite barber, Jayden Boutte. In his eyes, there simply was nobody better.
Sherwood’s life, love, talent, and beautiful spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Though his time here was far too short, the impact he made will never be forgotten. He also leaves behind a host of extended family members, loved ones, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
In loving memory of my son, Sherwood “Tre” Johnson III
My boy, Tre, left this world far too soon at 19. From the day he was born, I saw myself in him—how he looked, how he walked, how he carried himself with that quiet strength. People would say he was my mirror, and they were right. But he was more than my reflection—he was my pride, my joy, and my best friend.
We shared more than a last name. We shared steps, jokes, and a rhythm only a father and son can know. I loved my son with everything in me, and he loved me right back. That love was in the way he’d light up a room, the way he’d put an arm around my shoulder, the way he’d say “I got you, Dad.”
Losing him has broken me in ways I can’t explain. There’s an empty chair, an echo where his laugh should be, and a thousand small moments I reach for every day. But even in this pain, I hold tight to the gift of being his father. I will carry Tre with me in every step I take, in the choices I make, and in the love I give to others.
Sherwood Johnson III, my son, my heart—you were loved beyond measure, and you always will be. I will honor you by living the way you taught me to live: with courage, kindness, and steady love. Until I see you again, walk beside me, son. I’ve got you, and you’ve always got me.
Daddy love you son!
