Shirley Ann Dean

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 47 years Hugh Benson Dean and brother Preston Dale Womack. She is survived by her sister Glenda Prince, her son Kevin and wife Gala Dean, and her son Mike Dean.

Shirley had two grandchildren,Tiffany and husband Jason Melton, grandson Kolby Dean. Shirley also had four great grandchildren Madi Kate, Emery, James and Jett Melton.

Shirley married the love of her life Hugh Benson Dean on May 11th, 1962. They were married for 47 wonderful years. They built their country home in Elm Valley, TX where they raised their two sons Kevin and Mike. Some of her best memories included gardening, raising animals, hunting, fishing, watching wildlife and her favorite dog Beau, which she never quit telling stories about. Shirley and Hugh were very active in the Jim Ned community and supported their sons and grandchildren in all school activities.

Shirley worked at the Abilene State Park for 20+ years before retiring. She greeted each and every camper with the most warm and welcoming smile. Her love for her job was evident to each and every person who came to the State Park. She always loved talking about the baby deer she bottle fed and raised at the park. Often, she would arrive early just to be able to take a walk and enjoy the beauty and nature in the park.

Shirley was a light to everyone she met. She loved music and dancing especially songs by Elvis Presley. She also loved and was so proud of her children and grandchildren. Shirley had a true love of animals and anything to do with nature and the great outdoors.

Prior to her death she resided in an assisted living facility and used her gift and God’s light to touch so many people including staff and residents. She was always eager to encourage others with hugs, love, a tender touch and a big smile. We know that her reunion in heaven was glorious but she will be deeply missed by all here on earth.

A celebration of her life is being held in Katy,TX Saturday April 30th.
