Spencer Stanley Fields, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 77. Born on September 2, 1947, in Mobile, Alabama, Spencer lived a life full of hard work, dedication, and love for his family and country.
Spencer served his country with honor as a soldier in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, including the prestigious Purple Heart. His time in the military shaped his strong character and unwavering grit, values he carried with him throughout his life.
After his military service, Spencer pursued a career in the transportation industry. He held various positions driving tractor-trailers in the logging industry and for distributors. However, his entrepreneurial spirit shone brightest when he owned and operated several of his own trucks, a venture that brought him great pride and fulfillment.
Spencer was known for his hardened character, but beneath that tough exterior lay a heart of gold. He had a great sense of humor, a love for dogs, and a passion for the simple joys in life. Fishing was a lifelong hobby that brought him peace, and in his later years, he developed a love for gardening, particularly growing roses in his garden.
Spencer was a man of faith, a Christian who believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. His faith was an important part of his life, and it provided him comfort and strength throughout his years.
Spencer is survived by his devoted wife, June Fields; his children, Gregory Scott Fields and his wife, Tracey of Greenville, Texas. Christopher Michael Fields and his wife, Magan, of Tom Ball, Texas, and Alison Harrison Nash; and his nine cherished grandchildren, Abby, Mckadan, Ellie, Lucy, Major, Zoe, Cole, Madalyn, and Amos. He also leaves behind his siblings, Tracy, Perry, Gladys, Webster, and Anthony; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Renetta, Kenneth, Jeffrey, and Nicole, as well as many others in Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Spencer Fields and Vallie Fields, and his siblings, Bobby Starr Fields, Gene Devan Fields, Guy Malone Fields, Addie Pearl Reed, and Darlene Fields.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Hospital in Spencer's memory.
Spencer's life was a testament to the values of hard work, perseverance, and love for family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Services will be held at Katy Funeral Home on September 16th at 10:00 a.m.
