Steven Lee Mefford was born on May 30, 1970 in Beaumont, Texas. He was the second child to two of the most caring and supportive parents, Martha and Clif Mefford. Steven spent his 55 years on this earth deeply loved and surrounded by the steady devotion of his family.
Steven graduated from West Brook High School in Beaumont and was a dedicated Aggie fan! He loved the simple, steady joys of life like reading for hours, drawing sketches, and listening to all kinds of music. He was happy with a plate of Tex-Mex, an ice-cold Coke, and his family gathered together in one room. In the kitchen, he stood proudly beside MarMar for years, learning her cherished dishes and carrying them on with care and attentiveness. He had a curious mind and was always eager to learn something new, yet he never outgrew reminiscing about his funny stories from the good ole days. These kinds of stories he told with a sparkle in his eye and a laugh that made you feel like you were there to experience it too.
Steven, more well known to many as Tio, had a tendency of giving nicknames that made you feel completely known like “Curly Sue”, “Sisto”, ”Chief”, and “Lou Lou”. He would spend hours with his nieces coloring in princess pages, watching the nephews and nieces at the park and swimming pools, completely content and unhurried. He was never one to keep goodness to himself. He would share his juicy fruit gum without hesitation and could whip up a Texas sheet cake in the blink of an eye, just so someone else could feel a little more celebrated, a little more loved, a little more at home.
Stevens' life was marked by patience and kindness. We will remember him most for his unconditional love for all people, and his ability to find pure and genuine contentment in whatever the Lord had provided. In honoring him, we will continue on his mission by loving others how he loved, being fully present where our feet are, and soaking in the blessings we already have in front of us.
Steven is survived by his father, Clif Mefford, his siblings, Kristin Webster, Kyle Mefford and his wife Amy, his nieces & nephews, Tyler Webster and his wife Michelle and daughter Charlotte, Kendall Barker and her husband Jarett and children Ezra, Liam, and Brady, Jake and his Fiancé Breilly, Maddie Webster, Ethan and his Fiancé Courtney, and Emma Mefford. Steven is preceded in death by his mother, Martha Mefford and brother In law, Steve Webster.
We will celebrate Stevens' life on Saturday, February 21, 2026 from 2:00-5:00pm at the Mefford Residence with a come and go gathering. Please call or text for directions.
