

Jack (as we called him) was born September 10, 1930. He recently celebrated his 95th birthday. He was the only child of Thomas Alton Jackson Sr. & Erna Inez Jackson. He departed this life to be with the Heavenly Father on October 24, 2025 in Houston Texas.
He spent his early years in Mayfield Kentucky & later moved to Corinth Mississippi where he began his education & accepted the teaching of the Savior. He was baptized into the Church of Christ by his Uncle Marshall Keeble.
Later the family relocated to Nashville Tennessee. That is when he attended and graduated from Nashville Christian Institute (a private school sponsored by the Church of Christ). He immediately enrolled in Tennessee State University where he received both a Baccalaureate (1951) and Masters (1953) degrees.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army in May 1953 at Fort Jackson South Carolina and was assigned to complete training at Camp Gordon in Augusta Georgia where he served as a Cryptographic Instructor for the remainder of his tenure. It was while there that he met and married the Love of his Life Mae McComb and remained devoted for 69 years. To this union 4 children were born (Erica, Stephanie, Keith and Doug).
Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Nashville and accepted employment as a faculty member of Tennessee State University. Shortly after, he accepted an offer to complete his Doctoral Program at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville Tennessee. He graduated in May 1962. Before the end of the summer, he accepted a position of Assistant Professor at Florida A&M University where he held dual teaching responsibilities.
While at FAMU he worked in various positions culminating as Dean of the College of Education. During his tenure at FAMU he became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He retired in 2002 after 40 years.
During his 50-plus years in Florida he remained a faithful and long-term member of Timberlane Church of Christ.
Dr. Jackson leaves to mourn his life, his loving wife Mae Jackson, 4 children Erica Jackson, Stephanie Moorer, Keith Jackson and Joel “Doug” Jackson along with 2 granddaughters, LaTrece Moorer and Leah Moorer Fyffe & her husband Jermaine Fyffe.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Dignity Memorial Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, Texas.
