Tommy Wayne Sigler
September 9, 1933 – August 1, 2018
Tommy Wayne Sigler (Tom) died on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at age 84 of Parkinson's disease. He was born September 9,1933, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to George Allen Sigler and Gladys Hadley Sigler. He graduated from Ponca City High in 1951 where he was quarterback on the football team.
Tom married Margaret Emily Heffron and they had two daughters, Jennifer Lynn and Linda Lee. Tom graduated from Oklahoma A&M (OSU) in the top ten percent of his class, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering along with four years of ROTC, graduating with the rank of second lieutenant.
Tom went to work for Continental Pipeline Company (Conoco Inc.) in Ponca City. While working for Conoco he also lived in Spokane, Washington, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Artesia, New Mexico, New York City and Houston. In 1957 he did active duty in the army with the Ordnance Corp in Aberdeen, Maryland. Tom also took a one year leave from Conoco in 1963 to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, as a Sloan Fellow. This resulted in Tom earning an MS in Industrial Management. While at Conoco, at the age of 34, Tom became the youngest VP in the company. He was well respected and considered a rising star in the oil industry. At the age of 45, Tom left Conoco to form an investment group, Diversified Resource Group, headquartered in Houston with the object of starting new companies in the oil Industry. In his later years, Tom had his own consulting business in the oil and gas industry.
In 1971, Tom married Carol Darlene Johnston and they were married for 46 years. Carol brought great joy to his life and devotedly cared for him.
He was a member of Chapelwood United Methodist church for 54 years where he served as an usher, Sunday school teacher, administrative board member and most recently an encourager who wrote welcome letters to visitors.
Tom was preceded in death by his brother Bill Sigler and his daughter Jennifer Lynn Harper. He is survived by his wife Carol Sigler; daughter Linda Withers and husband Bob, son-in-law Gerald Harper; grandchildren, Andrew Harper and wife Cali, Thomas Harper and wife Ginny, Luke Withers and wife Taylor, Joshua Withers and fiancé Grace Murphy, Timothy Withers and fiancé Hayley Banks; and great grandchildren, Sophia Harper, Philip Harper, Elissa Harper, and June Withers.
Tom was a man of quiet strength whose life passion was for excellence in all he did, driven by his love for God and a great desire to make the world a better place. He loved his family dearly and showed it by actively participating in each one of their lives, and will be missed.
A service of celebration of his life will be held on Thursday August 9, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Street, Houston, in the Chapel.
