September 10, 1936 – August 14, 2025
Vera J. Luman, lovingly known as Vikki, passed away on August 14, 2025, at the age of 88. She was born on September 10, 1936, in Uvalde, Texas to Fred H. Ross and Vera Lucille Ross. Vikki grew up in Uvalde and attended Uvalde High School alongside her younger brothers, Fred Ross and Reagan R. Ross.
Throughout her life, Vikki was known for her strength, independence, and love for the outdoors. While details of her professional career are not widely recorded, the legacy she leaves through her family and community involvement speaks volumes about the life she led. She poured herself into her family, her church, and her passions. She made Brackettville, Texas her home for the past 25 years and found great joy in being an active member of Frontier Baptist Church. Those who visited were always welcomed with a “hot” cup of coffee and a warm heart. Vikki's devotion to her church family was unwavering, and she embraced her community with energy and faith.
Vikki is survived by her children, Rocky L. Luman and April D. Luman; her grandson, Travis Luman; and great-grandchildren, Ayden Luman and Bellamy Luman. She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Mary Beth Ross, as well as nieces and their families: Yvonne Selmont of Alaska, Kellie Aguilar of Rockport, and Amy Manning of Rockport. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Vera Ross; her brothers, Fred Ross and Reagan Ross; and her grandson, Brandon Hebeler.
Vikki shared a deep bond with the man who stepped up to raise her, a bond that shaped the very essence of who she became. The things she cherished most in life, hunting, fishing, and rambling were gifts he passed on to her. In her later years, she grew especially close to her baby brother Reagan, and the two spent countless hours fishing together in Rockport, Texas, with Reagan’s wife Mary Beth always nearby, keeping the fun-loving pair in line.
Vikki gave her children a legacy of love and strength. With Rocky, she shared countless road trips and memories, a tradition he still cherishes to this day. To April, she passed along resilience and the determination it takes to face life’s challenges head-on.
Vikki had a lifelong passion for learning and a heart for her church community. Though she called many places home, Brackettville was where she stayed the longest and where she planted the deepest roots. Her presence there, her love for others, and her genuine spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
