Wayne Douglas Malone, age 70, of Katy, Texas, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023. He was born in Pensacola, Florida, on Wednesday, May 6, 1953, and was the 12th and last child of the late George Malone and Myrtle Colbert.
Wayne was an amazing man who loved his family and loved life. He had a crazy work ethic and loved the challenge his work life provided. His first job was a newspaper route at age 14. He had various jobs during his teen years, but at 18, he began his 24 year career at Chicago Bridge and Iron. His late brother, Aubrey, would say that when Wayne made Superintendent, he was the youngest CBI had ever promoted to that position. Wayne worked in this capacity on various projects and "turnarounds" until he was transferred to the Houston office to become the Manager of their International Warehouse. He took pride in "out working" any of his crew in every endeavor. At age 42, Wayne decided to venture out on his own, opening his own company which he ran successfully for seven years, until he was made an offer he couldn't refuse. Myoco Pipeline Supply was looking for a new General Manager. It was the challenge that fit Wayne perfectly. He spent the remainder of his career there. During that time, he expanded the business and reputation and kept it alive during the Covid pandemic, which was no small feat for a small business. Myoco was a second home and family to Wayne.
Wayne loved and was loved by his family and longtime friends. He was an incredibly strong man, but also very kind and giving. He was an incredible husband and a fun loving and doting father to his children and grandchildren. Wayne would tell you that he didn't have a lot of hobbies, but he loved boating on Table Rock Lake, finding great restaurants on Pensacola Beach and playing with anything APPLE, putting together playlists and making sure he had all the latest technology. He was a proud member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, in Atmore, Alabama.
Wayne is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Sherrie; girls: Ellie McLean, Cherish Kim and husband, Michael and Star Malone; grandson, Vincent Kim; and sister, Sheila Olsen and husband, John.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle and George Malone; daughter, Michelle Leah Elbert; brothers: George Jr., Aubrey, Harold, Melburn, Jerry and Charles; and sisters, Evelyn Cofield and Betty Wooley.
A Memorial Service will be Monday, July 24, 2023, at 2:00PM, in the Rio Grande Chapel of Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Boulevard, Katy, Texas 77494. Mr. John Link will officiate.
