Mr. Edwards was born July 17, 1933 in Asheville, NC to Henry Clay and Ruth Edwards. After graduating
from North Carolina State University with a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering, Bill left his
home state and started his career in Baytown, Texas with Humble Oil Company as a developer. He
obtained several patents for new petroleum products while employed there. He continued his career
with Exxon Oil Company in New York City, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil then returning to Houston, Texas. He
left the Exxon Corporation after 29 years and joined Tauber Oil Company. In the early 1980’s he
established Edwards Energy Consultants advising many of the local and international oil communities
including the OPEC organization. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, going to listen to his
favorite gospel groups and loved to golf. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Houston.
Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Herbert Clay Edwards. He leaves
behind his loving wife of 65 years, Mildred Edwards of Katy, Texas; daughters, Janet Menard and
husband Bob of Mars Hill, NC; Julie Marcel of Houston, Texas; a grandson, Steven William Menard
and wife Becky and four great-granddaughters, Jacquelyn, Jocelyn, Cheyenne, and Taylor of Mars Hill,
NC; and brother Thomas Hugh Edwards of Winston-Salem, NC . He also leaves behind many family
members and special friends.
Bill was a fine Husband, Father, Grand-father and friend, and he will be immeasurably missed by so
many who knew him.
The Edwards family would like to thank all those who took such good care of Mr. Edwards at Methodist
West Hospital in his last days with us.
A private time was shared with immediate family in Katy at the Katy Funeral Home in Katy, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at GracePoint Church in Asheville, NC at a later date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bill’s name to your favorite charitable
organization.
