He was born in Omaha, Nebraska on July 8, 1945 to Edwin Howard Reitan and Evelyn Ethel (Backstrom) Reitan. Bill had a career with the Internal Revenue Service spanning from 1972 to 1997 and retired as the Chief of Appeals for the Houston office. During that same time period, he was a member of the Army Reserves and retired as a Colonel in 2005. As a young man, he was an Eagle Scout and was a member of the Order of the DeMolay. He graduated from the University of Nebraska where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity. His hobbies included pheasant hunting, Nebraska football, the Houston Rodeo, gourmet cooking and playing bridge.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Ethel (Backstrom) Reitan, his father Edwin Howard Reitan, Sr. and his older brother Edwin Howard Reitan, Jr.
He is survived by his wife Linda Kay Reitan, his son William Christopher Reitan, his daughter Dawn Reitan-Brockman, his son-in-law, Scott Brockman, his grandchildren Ainsley and Finn and his sister-in-law, Margret Reitan.
A visitation for William will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Katy Funeral Home located at 23350 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, Texas 77494, to be followed by a funeral service on Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. A committal service will occur Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 12:45 PM at Houston National Cemetery, located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, Texas 77038.
