Wilson (Truett) Butler was called to his eternal home in Heaven on August 22, 2013. Truett left this life to join his parents, Clara Wilson Butler and Daniel Fortson Butler; and brothers, James Kennith Butler and Norris Butler, who died in infancy. Truett was born in Loraine, Texas on December 17, 1921, and was a lifelong Texas resident. He graduated from Loraine High School and attended McMurray College, in Abilene, Texas. During World War II, he interrupted his studies to enlist, and proudly served his country in the 462nd Division of the Army Air Corps (1942-1945). After years in Italy and with the end of the war, he returned to Loraine to help with the family farm. Truett married the love of his life, Betty Glass Butler, on April 11, 1948. They shared a loving marriage and celebrated their 65th anniversary this year. After they married, he farmed in Loraine, but the devastating drought of the 1950's prompted Truett to make a career change and return to McMurray College. There, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1953, Truett began a 32 year career with Marathon Oil Company, in Midland. He became Division Manager and travelled extensively throughout Texas, New Mexico and Louisiana. The Butler family moved to Houston in 1969. Truett was above all, a loving husband and father. He has been described as a true West Texas gentleman. A very humble man with a gentle nature, he put everyone around him at ease. Truett was very proud of all of his grandchildren. He deeply appreciated that he was blessed with a wonderful life. Truett is survived by his wife, Betty Glass Butler; two children: daughter, Judy Figoski and husband, Al, and son, Donald Butler and wife, Sheryll; grandchildren: Amy Pawlik and husband, Dan; Alison Figoski, Kevin Butler (engaged to Brittney), and Keith and Kristopher Butler; sister, Dorris Dockrey, of Colorado City; niece, Kennie Sue Irwin; nephews: Danny Butler and wife, Pam; Jim Dockrey and wife, Sherry; and Bill Dockrey and wife, Debbie. Truett and his family are blessed to be surrounded by many loving neighbors, friends and special caregivers. A Celebration of Life Service will be Monday, August 26, 2013, at Ten-Thirty in the morning, in the Chapel of Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Boulevard, Katy, Texas 77494. A catered reception will follow the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of floral remembrances, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Butler's name to the American Heart Association or to the charity of your choice.
