Elbert Wade Box Sr.
December 16, 1946 – October 18, 2020
Elbert Wade Box Sr., age 73, of Scurry, Texas passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2020. Elbert was born December 16, 1946 in Eudora, Arkansas to Ervin LaDell Box, Sr. and Pearl Hampton Box. Elbert was a man whose unique personality resonated with everyone he met. His trademark bushy beard distinguished him from all others. He passed his playful nature and mischievous smile down to his sons and grandchildren. Elbert was adored by his family. His beloved older brother Kent always called him “Bubba,” which brought a smile to Elbert’s face each time they gathered. He was the most loyal husband and father a family could hope for. He was strong but gentle, loving, and wise. He championed Christian morals and instilled independence, diligence, perseverance, and responsibility in his children. Elbert was by far one of the hardest working men there was. His genuine thoughtfulness, trustworthiness, and natural honesty and intelligence provided a role model that any family would be fortunate to have. His intelligence, caring nature and lively sense of humor made him a joy to spend time with and left a lasting impression on his friends and family. Elbert was a Christian and a confirmed member of Zion Lutheran Church in Dallas, Texas. Elbert was also weightlifter throughout his entire life. Some of Elbert’s fondest memories were fishing with his older brothers when he was a child and continuing that tradition with his sons. Elbert loved woodworking with his tools. Elbert taught his family about firearms use and safety, enjoyed target practicing with his favorite guns, and ensured his family learned how to protect themselves. Elbert attended Woodrow Wilson High School and finished at Crozier Technical High School, both in Dallas, Texas. After High School, he went to work for the City of Dallas in the Water Department, where he became known as “Boxie” to his closest coworkers. During his career, Elbert attended Texas A&M University for several work-related courses. He retired from the Water Department after 33+ years of hard work and dedication. Elbert is preceded in death by his parents, five sisters Dean Davis, Ella Duncan, Bert Hampton, Francis Sanders, and Peggy Brewington, three brothers Ervin LaDell Box, Jr., Kent Box, and Jerry Box, and one son, Matthew Westly Box. Those left with cherished memories are his loving wife of 52 years Marcella Ann Box of Scurry, Texas; two sons Jerry Clint Box of Winnsboro, Texas and Elbert Wade Box Jr. and wife Salena of Scurry, Texas; grandchildren Candace Owen and husband Nicholas of Lancaster, Texas, Kyle Box, Dylan Box, Seth Box and Leeann Box all from Scurry, Texas; one brother Jim Box of Denton, Texas, and one sister Rita Byrnes of Winnsboro, Texas along with a host of other beloved family and friends who will miss him dearly.
