Marcella was born on September 29, 1950, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Ralph Edward Tindell and Mary Ann Hosto Tindell.
Marcella was a woman whose unique persona resonated with everyone she knew. Her exceptional height, piercing blue eyes, and long brown made her stand out from all others. Her remarkable traits and captivating expressions were passed to her sons and grandchildren.
Marcella’s family adored her. Her siblings always called her Marky, and her grandchildren knew her as “Oma,” which is German for grandmother. Every time she heard one of her grandchildren run into her house and yell “Oma!,” she could not help but smile from ear to ear. She was the most loving wife and mother a family could hope for. She was caring, wise, and always provided honest advice. Her gentle yet firm essence provided her children with a nurturing and protective mother that any child would be fortunate to have. She championed Christian morals and instilled honesty, independence, persistence, and accountability in her children. Marcella was by far one of the hardest working women there was. Her bona fide kindness, trustworthiness, natural integrity, and incredible intelligence provided an impeccable role model for her family. Her considerate and caring nature, coupled with her festive sense of humor, made her a joy to embrace. Marcella’s one-of-a-kind character bestowed a lasting impression on her friends and family.
Marcella was a Christian and a confirmed member of Zion Lutheran Church in Dallas, Texas. She practiced Judo and kept herself in great physical shape for most of her life. Collecting rocks, stamps, and elephant figurines from around the world, and adorning her home with flowers were some of her most enjoyable hobbies. Some of Marcella’s fondest memories were vacationing with her family and hosting large holiday celebrations at her home. The most cherished moments in Marcella’s life were staying at home raising her sons. Marcella, along with her husband Elbert, loved upgrading their homes via the “do it yourself” fashion. Marcella taught her boys about the importance of a healthy lifestyle, education, integrity, and ensured they would be ready for any challenge.
Being raised as an “Air Force Brat,” Marcella grew up living all over the world. She attended many schools throughout the United States, Japan, England, and more. After returning to the USA for good at 17 years of age, she graduated from Crozier Technical High School in Dallas, Texas. After high school, she attended El Centro College in Dallas, TX, where she pursued business and computer science. For most of her career, she worked at Blue Cross / Blue Shield of Texas as a programmer and later United American Insurance Company.
Marcella is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Raymond Karl Tindell, and Lee McClure Tindell, her youngest son, Matthew Westly Box, and her beloved husband of over 52 years, Elbert Wade Box.
Those left with cherished memories are her two sons, Jerry Clint Box of Winnsboro, Texas and Elbert Wade Box, Jr. and wife Salena of Scurry, Texas; grandchildren Candace Owen and husband Nicholas of Lancaster, Texas, Dylan Box of Wylie, Texas, Kyle Box, Seth Box, and Leeann Box all from Scurry, Texas; one brother, Edward Tindell of Houston, Texas; and one sister, Patricia Tindell of Texas, along with a host of other beloved family and friends who will miss her dearly.
