To the family of Leon Burgess: I was lucky to meet your father in 1968, when Paula and I became friends during our freshman year of high school. From the first time we met, Mr. and Mrs. Burgess made me feel like part of your family and I loved being in your home. Mr. Burgess was one of the funniest people I have ever known and his jokes would keep me in stitches. One of the funniest things he ever said is something that I have repeated many, many times throughout the years. He said it, one day, as he was driving Paula and me somewhere. We were listening to the radio and at the end of some song, he said, "Up next is Ned Nasty and the Nine Nasty Nostril Pickers singing "I'm Gonna Get You, Booger!" To this day, I laugh when I remember that moment in time. You are a very blessed family to have had such a wonderful man as your father. Your love for him and your memories of him will sustain you as you work through the grief of his passing.
