Albert was born in Hartford, Connecticut on May 2, 1918, the first child of Albert Victor and Myrtle Alice Hilton. The family moved to Keene, New Hampshire about 1924. He lived in Keene his entire life and graduated from Keene High School in 1937. After high school Albert worked for Kingsbury Machine Company as a machinist until his retirement.
Albert married Pearl Irene Williams, daughter of Guy and Katrina Williams on June 2, 1943 at the Williams home in Keene.
Albert enlisted in the Seabees CBMU 565 in 1943. He entered Camp Peary, Williamsburg, Virginia, for training on November 22, 1943 and transferred to Port Hueneme, California. He shipped out February 21, 1944 aboard the U.S.S. Westpoint. The unit landed at Mile Bay, New Guinea in the South Pacific in March. After one year he left to fight in the East Indies on Morotai Island on February 15, 1945. Albert returned to USA on November 1, 1945, arriving in Boston, MA on November 11, 1945 and mustered out on November 13, 1945. Albert belongs to the Veterans of Foreign War Foundation and the American Legion.
Albert was avid fan of the Boston Red Sox who won the World Series both in 1918 and 2018.
Albert is survived by his brother Marshall (Joyce) Hilton of Charlotte, NC, sister-in-law Patricia Hilton of Keene, sister-in-law Cathy Hilton of El Cajon, CA, brother-in-law Nelson Morin of Farmington, CT, and three generations of nieces and nephews.
Albert was predeceased by his wife, Pearl; siblings, Bernice Derby, Shirley Ecklund, Myrtle Morin, Beverly Frink, Frederick Hilton, Jeanie Hilton, Melvin Hilton.
Donations in Albert’s honor may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
A memorial celebration of Albert’s life will be held in Keene in the spring 2019.
