He was born on April 14, 1952 in Keene, NH, the son of Earl S. and Vona A. (Whitney) Champney.
Al was an accomplished auto mechanic and spent his earlier years traveling the country working at various shops. He opened his first garage, Al’s Repairs, in Keene. Not only were automobiles Al’s expertise, but he had a passion for classic cars.
On September 25, 1993 Al married Francine (Jones) Swanson. The two were brought together by mutual friends and times spent together hanging out at the garage.
Al is fondly remembered a gentle man with a wonderful sense of humor. He was hard working and always willing to lend a hand – The type that would give you the shirt off his back.
Al will be dearly missed by his wife: Francine Champney of Marlow, NH; children: Renee Bohannon of Winchester, NH, Allen Champney, Jr. and his wife Tina of Winchendon, and Daniel Davis of Winchester, NH MA; step-children: Christine Blake and her husband Lee of Swanzey, NH, Sherry Snow and her husband Wayne of Richmond, NH, Carl Swanson and his wife Chris of Fitzwilliam, NH, and Walter Swanson of Richmond, NH; brother: Donnie Champney and his wife Alma of Walpole, NH; long time childhood friend: Wayne “Newelly” Newell of Claremont, NH; good friends: Steve Derosia of Alstead, NH and Leo Derosia of Surry, NH: as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
He was predeceased by his parents: Earl and Vona Champney; and siblings: Stewart Champney, Robert Champney, and Danny Champney.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Al’s Life at the American Legion Keene Post #4, 797 Court Street, Keene, NH on Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
