

He worked as a pediatrician in Keene, NH, for 35 years and took care of many of the community’s children over the course of his practice.
He graduated from Northumberland High School, graduating as a three-sport athlete in baseball, basketball, and football. He was known as a small, fast competitor, and was team captain as well as class president.
Being a member of the Boy Scouts was very important to his development, and he achieved Eagle rank and was also accorded Vigil Honor, Order of the Arrow. Scouting was his introduction to the outdoors, which he loved and enjoyed his entire life.
He did his undergraduate study at Dartmouth College and received his medical degree from George Washington University School in 1968. He had post-doctoral training in York, PA; Columbus, OH; and Buffalo, NY, as well as two years in the Navy Medical Corps in Washington, DC, where he completed his service as a Lieutenant Commander.
He married Lynn Simington in 1972, and the family moved to Keene, NH, where he practiced as a general pediatrician at the Keene Clinic and Dartmouth-Hitchcock for 35 years. The Simington’s had two children, Benjamin and Jennifer.
Over the years, he co-hosted a radio talk show, was school physician for both Keene and Monadnock districts, and was an active member in the New Hampshire Pediatric Society. He also served 12 years on the American Board of Pediatrics on the clinical problems committee and was adjunct associate professor of pediatrics for the Dartmouth Medical School. He received several teaching excellence awards, including the volunteer teaching award Alpha Omega Alpha Fraternity and the Franklin Norwin Rodgers retired pediatrician of the year award.
He held leadership positions in the Keene Clinic, Cheshire Medical Staff, United Church of Christ, and Historical Society of Cheshire County. He was also long-time secretary of the prestigious Keene Squash, Chowder, and Development Corporation.
Music was a great love. He never sang a note in high school, but at Dartmouth he began singing with the glee club and the glee club’s double quartet. He later became a founding member of the Keene Chorale and the Chamber Singers of Keene and sang with the United Church of Christ choir for over 40 years. He also was a serious recorder player.
With his family, he enjoyed travel, especially a month in Scotland, home of his grandparents.
Recreational interests were squash, carpentry, and hiking.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Lynn Simington; his daughter, Jen Simington of Santa Cruz, CA; his son, Ben Simington and wife Shira Peltzman, of New Haven, CT; and his brother, David Simington of Sunbury, PA, and sister Gayle Roth of Frankfurt, KY. He is survived by four grandchildren, Zadie Perera, Zoe Perera, Ezra Simington, and Jacob Simington.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the United Church of Christ, 23 Central Square, Keene on June 20, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
