She was born on December 11, 1928, in Mays Landing, NJ, daughter of the late Susan M. (Jordon) and Charles F. Herbert. She attended area schools and eventually landed in Marlborough, NH, which became her long-time home.
Audrey married the love of her life, Harry F. Rogers. They celebrated 51 years of wedded bliss and many opportunities to dance before Harry’s passing in 2002.
Audrey loved interacting with people. Her long-time career of working in grocery stores fit her well as locals enjoyed seeing her at the checkout. She outlasted all of her employers from OK Fairbanks, to Super Place, to Shaws. Once Shaws closed, Audrey embarked with her last employer, Market Basket. Here, she was featured in the Sentinel’s “At a Glance” in 2018 for her remarkable dedication and work ethic at 89 years old. Sadly, for her, at the age of 91, Audrey was reluctantly faced with retirement when the Covid epidemic broke out.
In her younger years, Audrey enjoyed roller skating – of which she was quite skilled. Throughout the years she was always ready to break out in dance and held an urge to stay active even on a “day off”. Saturdays meant a trip to the casinos. Whether it was local or a trip to Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun, Audrey was infamous for playing Texas Hold’em Poker. She also enjoyed Bingo outings. At home she played Solitaire, did word searches, and played Rummy with friends and family.
Audrey will be dearly missed by many, including her children: Susan Taylor of Marlborough, NH, Carol Domingue of Keene, NH, Audrey Priest of Keene, NH, and Jim Rogers of Marlborough, NH; grandchildren: Jason, Christian, Taylor, Stefanie, and James; great-grandchildren: Madison, Macy, Austin, Kinley, Jordan, Hadley, Gavin, Lilly, and Jonah; and her beloved and loyal companions that stayed by her side to the very end: her pit-bull Rocky and cat Sierra.
In addition to her parents and devoted husband, she was predeceased by two children: Dorothy Rogers and Harry Rogers, Jr.; and siblings: Lawrence and Helen.
A celebration of Audrey’s life will be held at Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH, on Monday, September 16th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Audrey E. Rogers’ name are suggested to be made to the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 West Swanzey Road, Swanzey, NH 03446 (www.MonadnockHumaneSociety.org).
