She was born in Keene, NH on March 11, 1930, the daughter of Harry Lamont Sabin and Ida Violet (Whitman) Sabin. She grew up in Keene and moved to Surry Village during grade school and was a 1948 graduate of Keene High School.
She married Robert Vinton Stillings of Surry, NH on May 1st, 1954. They were married 48 years, happily living in Surry, NH for most of their lives.
Beth started her career at the Army & Navy Store in Keene working for Izzy Borofsky. She enjoyed bookkeeping there and had fond memories of working for Izzy.
Her husband, Bob, was a custom builder of homes and owner of F&S Forms. Bob built beautiful homes in the Keene area for 40 years and Beth managed the bookkeeping and answered the phone (not Bob’s favorite thing!) for the business. She also was a home healthcare provider for the elderly.
After Bob retired, Beth began working with her friend, Joyce Levins opening Cards of Joy at the Colony Mill. Beth managed the store until Joyce retired and then bought Cards of Joy and ran it for the next 20 years. Customers loved to come in and browse the cards and gifts and enjoy her ever-present smile and positive personality.
Beth loved to find special items for specific customers when she went to the gift and card shows. She always had stickers for the kids to pick out at the store.
After she sold Cards of Joy, she focused on her favorite work, that of being a grandmother. As Grammy she helped raise and influence seven grandchildren, each of whom could fill a book with wonderful stories about her.
Beth was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Keene for 75 years. Beth loved kids and was always trying to find ways to mentor them. She was a leader for the Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cadettes and Cub Scouts even before her children were old enough to be involved. Once Beth had children, Lee Ann, Robin and Bobby, she was constantly exposing them to new adventures like: lessons for swimming, skating, skiing, ballet, tap dancing, synchronized swimming, drawing, horseback riding and even getting the kids on the Uncle Gus Show!
Beth also found time to volunteer. She was a member of the Surry Historical Society; helped plan Keene High School class reunions and was a member of the Old Homestead Garden Club for many years. Beth enjoyed cooking, drawing, and loved to go to Miss America pageants across the country.
Beth also loved to travel. She traveled often to visit her brother and his family in Denver Colorado and would winter in Saint Augustine Florida with her cousins Beulah and Bob Peterson. She also traveled to England, Scotland, France, Germany, Japan, China, and Santa Domingo. But her favorite place was always wherever her children were.
Beth spent the last 5 years at Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland, NH. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Maplewood for the wonderful care they provided for Beth.
Beth was loved by all, and her sweet and gentle spirit is already missed.
