Brenda E. Parker

December 28, 1925November 10, 2017

The skilled hands of a talented quilter became still with the passing of Brenda H. Parker 91, a lifelong resident of East Sullivan, NH, on Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Cheshire Medical Center / Dartmouth Hitchcock, Keene, NH.

Her parents, Freda B. (Wescome) and Edgar T. Hastings, Sr. proudly welcomed their daughter into the world on December 28, 1925 in Keene, NH. Brenda grew up in East Sullivan and was a 1943 graduate of Keene High School.

Early on, Brenda worked as a bookkeeper with the former G.H. Tilden Company in Keene. With the starting of her family, Brenda took great pride in caring for her home and raising her two children with the help of her husband, Roy.

Brenda’s skills at creating patchwork quilts were handed down through several generations as well as the family treadle sewing machine used to create these beautiful creations. Brenda was also gifted in knitting, crocheting and crafting. During her quiet times, she enjoyed reading and completing crossword puzzles.

She was a member of the Sullivan Friends of the Library.

Brenda will be greatly missed by many, especially her two children, Fred Parker of Sullivan and Peggy and her husband, Mike Dunham, of Sullivan; her granddaughters, Amanda and her husband, Russell MacDougall, of Spofford, NH, Heather and her husband, James Ringland, of Fitzwilliam, NH, Megan and her fiancé, Andrew Richardson, of West Swanzey, NH; her great-grandchildren, Jake, Hayden, Aliyah and Bentley, and her brother Edgar T. Hastings, Jr. of Keene. She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Roy F. Parker in 1985; a sister, Fay E. Hastings; and her beloved Shepherd mix, Rex, and Miss Kitty.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 1:00PM in the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene. Burial will follow in the East Sullivan Cemetery, Centre Street, Sullivan.

In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made in Mrs. Parker’s memory to the Save Your Ass Long Ear Rescue, 23 Saw Mill Road, South Acworth, NH 03607.

She used to make the best Fudge, and Fred would share it with me at Braden Printing when we worked together, that is a memory I will hold on to! Joe Mills

Our little village of East Sullivan was like an extended family, the center of which was the Hastings home. Its occupants represented the best of New England hospitality and were there for everyone in times of trouble. The big old home with its inviting kitchen was always open and welcoming. Brenda remained a resident all her life. She was the last of the village family, forever in the hearts of us oldtimers. RIP Patricia McMahon Clark
