

His parents, Theodore and Wilma (Manthorn) Merry welcomed their son into the world on June 11, 1947, in Newburyport, MA. Brian grew up in Byfield, MA and was a 1965 graduate of Governor Dummer Academy in Byfield, MA.
Brian received a bachelor's degree in English in 1969 from Bates College in Lewiston, ME and later completed his master’s degree in Education from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, CT.
Brian began his career in education teaching seventh and eighth graders at Calf Pen Meadow School in Milford CT. After moving to Westmoreland, he taught at the Charlestown Middle School in Charlestown, NH, from 1981 to 1995. Having retired from teaching, Brian worked as a postal carrier with the Westmoreland Post Office, until he retired in 2014.
Brian enjoyed playing golf with his sons and his college friends. He liked reading history, particularly about the Civil War. He worked on crossword puzzles daily and was especially fond of the NYT Sunday puzzle. A Red Sox fan, he loved watching baseball, especially his grandson’s games.
He will be greatly missed by many, including his wife of 55 years, Lois (Klare) Merry of Westmoreland; his children, Jeffrey Merry and his wife Suzanna of Harrisville, NH, Jill Merry of New York City, NY, and Kevin Merry of Spofford, NH; his grandchildren, Joshua Merry, Samuel Merry and Layla Almonte; and his brother, Scott Merry of Tarpon Springs, FL. His brother, Jon Merry, predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025 at 11:00am in the United Church of Christ, 23 Central Square, Keene, NH. All are welcome.
Burial in the Village Cemetery, Westmoreland will be held privately by the family.
