On Monday, April 20th, 2026, after a long battle with COPD, Candyce L. Fulford (née Wright) went into the arms of the Lord, surrounded by family. Candyce, born June 29th, 1951 to Richard Wright and Kathleen “Kay” Wright (née Jackson) of Claremont, NH, was the eldest of six children. From a young age, she wanted to be a sister and a mother. She helped care for her younger siblings, helping them grow and learn in a quickly changing world.
At 18, she would marry SFC David L. Fulford of Swanzey NH. Within the year, she would give birth to her eldest daughter, Jennifer L. Lamerand (née Fulford) on her birthday, June 29th, 1970. Being an Army Wife, she would move around with her children, with her middle daughter, Anna Philbrick (née Fulford) being born in West Germany in August of 1972. She would round out her little family with the birth of her youngest daughter, Ashleigh Morse (née Fulford), affectionately known as “Peanut”, in December of 1985.
A long time resident of Swanzey, Candyce would move with her family to Nelson, NH, where she would spend the next 20 years. In this time, she made many friends and touched many lives. She would be part of the Nelson Cemetery Board, help start the Moving in Step organization, and write for the electronic magazine of town: The Black Fly Express.
Community was very important to her because she came from such a large family. She would spend the last few years of her life virtually attending bible study every Wednesday with the Nelson Congregational Church, even after she moved to Keene in 2023. As she was mostly home bound, she called herself a “happy hermit”, enjoying talking with people on zoom, facetime, phone calls, and through written word.
Before becoming ill, she drove for Meals on Wheels, which was by far her favorite job she’d ever had. Being part of the community, and talking with her clients, made all the difference. It truly showed her character as a warm and loving woman, who always wanted to help and be an ear for those who may have no one else.
Candyce had many loves in her life when it came to family. Outside of family, her hobbies were doing genealogical research and watching NASCAR. Her favorite ever driver was Dale Earnhardt Sr and she forever remembered his memory. Every Saturday and Sunday, she would tune into the races (even if the grandkids complained).
When it came to genealogy, she found many extended family members. One of her favorite finds was connecting with the Jackson side of her family down in Virginia, where she would help locate lost burial sites and family plots. She would stay connected with as many of her extended family members as she could, continuing to have that big family and community she cultivated in her life.
Candyce is preceded in death by her father and mother, and also by her husband. She is survived by her siblings, Kelly Cederholm, Kim Ethier, Karen Larrabee, Chris Wright, and Rick Wright Jr. She is survived by her daughters: Jennifer Lamerand and husband Kyle Lamerand, Anna Philbrick and husband Gregg Philbrick, and Ashleigh Morse and husband Sean Morse. She also has ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At her request, there will be no calling hours. There will be a public Celebration of Life for family and her many friends to attend at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the COPD Foundation in her honor.
