
Educated locally, he graduated from Keene High School in 1946 and then went to work at Central Screw Company in Keene before enlisting in the Air Force on December 01, 1951. David served in the Korean War. Following active duty, he entered the Air Force Reserve, retiring in 1975 with the rank of Major.
David married Laura E. Goodrum on March 03, 1962. The couple settled in Westmoreland, NH where David operated his own business, D.J. Bailey Farm Equipment. He also served the Westmoreland community as a Selectman and chaired the Zoning Board. He was President of The North Cemetery Association and a founding member of The Union Church Community in Christ.
David joined the Masonic Fraternity in Keene, NH in 1959 and was coroneted to the honorary 33rd degree of Masonry in 1985. He also belonged to the Masonic Fraternity of the Royal Order of Scotland.
Laura and David wintered for many years in Wildwood, FL where David enjoyed wildlife and fishing. The couple loved traveling and visited all 50 states and all the provinces of Canada. They traveled throughout Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and England which afforded them to opportunity to do genealogical research on both of their families.
David is survived by his younger brother, Eugene, of Payson, AZ and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his “little brother,” Scott MacDonald and his wife, Kelley, of Fairbanks, AK. He is predeceased by his parents, his loving wife Laura, and his brother Robert R. Bailey.
A Celebration of David’s life will be held at The Union Church Community in Christ, 998 Rte. 12, Westmoreland, NH on May 28, 2026 at 11:00 AM.
