

David was born July 12, 1942, in Keene, the son of George A. and Rachel (Doody) Gaillardetz. He was a 1960 graduate of Keene High School. After High School he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. Throughout his working life, David worked for several grocers in the Keene and surrounding areas, including Grand Union, SuperValu, and C&S Grocers.
A gentle, easy-going man, David was always quick with a grin and friendly harassing of those he had an affinity for. He was a hardworking man devoted to his family. His passion was a decades-long hobby of metal detecting. He was intimately involved in different leadership and officer roles within various metal detecting associations and enjoyed sharing his love and knowledge with fellow enthusiasts. Through the years, he was very supportive of his children and grandchildren including his participation in sporting activities the kids pursued. He enjoyed following all of the New England sporting teams, especially the Red Sox and Patriots. In his later years he was a beloved part of the community at Genesis Eldercare. With help from staff, he kept a garden on the grounds and took great pride in growing a variety of vegetables which were enjoyed by many of the residents and staff. His upbeat and outgoing personality made him a joy to be around and he was always willing to lend a hand to help someone in need.
He is survived by two sons: Matthew Gaillardetz and his wife Yvonne of Purcellville, VA and David Gaillardetz and his wife Bryna of Swanzey, his daughter: Robin Arlen and her husband Scott of Roxbury, three grandchildren: Tyler Arlen, Hannah Gaillardetz and Felicia Gaillardetz, two sisters: Judith Willett and her husband Clovis of Keene and Susan VanderWiel and her husband Jim of Swanzey.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 11am at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Main Street, Keene, NH. Family and friends are invited to call on the family Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 6 to 8pm.
