He was born on July 7, 1929 in York, ME, the son of Roland A. Hutchins and Hilma O. (Alexander) Davis. He attended Ogunquit area schools and graduated from high school in North Berwick, ME.
On June 29, 1958, Dewey married the love of his life, Laura J. Bates. Together they spent time residing in Maine, Newport, NH, Walpole, and finally settled in Marlborough in 1974. No matter where they lived, Laura and Dewey always kept a close connection with their faith at the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Dewey had worked for Woodward Motors and Yankee Magazine. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by Patriot Motors where he was a driver and a sales man.
While sports didn’t interest Dewey much, he was a great advocate for physical fitness. He was a car enthusiast and enjoyed music even more. He played both the piano and organ. Whenever he had the opportunity to play for his Church or preach God’s message, he eagerly did so. Dewey will be remembered as a quiet man with a kind heart.
Although Dewey and Laura did not have any children of their own, they fostered numerous children throughout the years.
Dewey will be dearly missed by his loving wife: Laura Hutchins of Marlborough; sister: Jean Stansfield of Maine; and several extended family members, friends, and Church community.
A memorial service will be held at the Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church, 42 Forbush Lane, East Swanzey, NH on Saturday, May 26th at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to the Dewey Hutchins Memorial Fund, Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church, 42 Forbush Lane, East Swanzey, NH 03446.
