

He was born in Waltham, MA, on February 19, 1937, the son of Leo Joseph and Grace (McAskill) Halpin. He grew up in Waltham and graduated from high school there.
He married Marcellene (Mickie) Alger on December 8, 1974 in Keene.
Don worked as trucker for over 44 years, the last 28 years with Wetterau (later became Super Valu) here in Keene. Known as “The Duck”, he retired in 2000.
After two years of retirement, he became a “Walmart Greeter” for the next 12 years until he became too ill to work.
Don enjoyed playing softball. Before reaching the age to participate in the senior league, he managed the Golds Gym team and the Dad's Dogs team as well. He then advanced to the Keene Mens Senior Softball League playing on the Over the Hill team. He was an avid fan of Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins and Celtics.
He also enjoyed golfing, making his one and only “hole in one” at the Pine Grove Springs Country Club when he was 68. He and his wife, Mickie, also enjoyed their time exercising at the Bond Wellness Center in Peterborough.
Don was a member of the St. Denis Church in Harrisville, and also was a Union Steward for the Teamsters Local 633.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marcellene “Mickie” Halpin of Harrisville; his children Deborah Andrews of Agawam, MA, Donald W. Halpin, Jr. of Southwick, MA, (step daughter) Kimberly Dylewicz of Ware, MA, Daniel M. Halpin of Southwick, MA, Donna M. Halpin of Apache Junction, AZ, and Kevin C. Halpin of VT; 16 granddaughters, 4 grandsons, 10 great granddaughters, 10 great grandsons; siblings Leona La Pierre of Ogunquit, ME, Richard Halpin of Indian Orchard, MA, and Elaine Russo of Melbourne, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by two brothers, two sisters, the mother of his four biological children, one step daughter and three grand daughters.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 28th, 2015, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, and 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Fletcher Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 33 Marlboro St., Keene, NH. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the St. Denis Cemetery in Harrisville.
