Eleanor Hood Putnam formerly of Park Hill Commons and Nims Road, Westmoreland, NH, passed away on August 18, 2016 after a period of declining health. She made her last earthly journey constantly surrounded with care and love by her daughters and her Maplewood family.
Eleanor was born on July 3, 1928 in Somerville, MA, the daughter of Alden and Lillian (Smith) Boyd.
She married Talbot Hood on August 21, 1948, and they were married for 49 years until his death. She later married George Putnam and they were married for 14 years until his death in 2012.
Eleanor was a very accomplished cook and homemaker and enjoyed hosting dinner parties to the delight of her many guests. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing vegetables which she canned, and flowers which always decorated her home.
Music was a very important part of her life and she constantly surrounded herself with a beautiful variety of it.
She was an excellent seamstress. Aside from sewing clothes for her family, she was at one time involved in creating costuming for the Keene Lion's Club Eyes-A-Poppin' shows.
When her daughters were older she worked at Keene State College as an administrative assistant secretary which gave her great satisfaction. Later she worked at Maplewood Nursing Home as a receptionist for a number of years.
She was a member of the Park Hill Society, the Westmoreland Garden Club, the Ladies Aid, a former member the Westmoreland United Church, and a member of The Westmoreland Union Church family.
Although Eleanor was very active within her community and church, she was most proud of her role as a mother, raising her four daughters, and as a grandmother and great-grandmother, cherishing the special moments spent with each of them.
Eleanor will be greatly missed by her family and friends including her four daughters, Linda Hood-Glidden and her husband, Ken, of Brewster, MA, Lois French and her husband, Dennis, of Keene, April Ferguson and her husband, Ted, of Westmoreland, Audrey Hood of Westmoreland; five grandchildren, Adria French Tolman and her husband, Aaron Tolman, Christopher French and his wife, Suzanne, TJ Ferguson, Victor Glidden and his wife, Erica, Shayla Hood Vasser; and five great-grandchildren. Eleanor was pre-deceased by her sister, Beatrice White; a nephew, Mark Nichols; and her two husbands.
Eleanor will forever be remembered for her grace and courage as she battled many health issues during her life.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 27th at 2:00PM in The Union Church, 998 Route 12, Westmoreland. Burial in the North Cemetery, Westmoreland, will be private.
