Ellen was born on November 3, 1936, in Wolfeboro, NH where she grew up and attended Brewster Academy. She was a captain of the Brewster Bobcats cheerleading team when she caught the eye of a trumpet playing man, Bob Hammond, the love of her life. That first dance turned into 70 years of marriage.
Ellen and Bob raised two daughters in Marlborough. Ellen was very active in her daughters’ lives as well as in her community. She was a 4-H leader teaching sewing to many young women in the community. Ellen’s homemade Halloween costumes won many blue ribbons years in a row.
She teamed up with Irene Keating and started Al Anon and Alateen meetings, 12 step programs for the spouses and children of alcoholics. She studied oil painting and was a seamstress under Lillian O’Neil of Keene. She enjoyed hiking, camping, riding motorcycles with her husband Bob.
Above all, she loved her family! Ellen took care of both her mother, and her husband until their passing.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Bob Hammond, her mother Kay Clough and her father Everett Clough. Ellen is survived by daughters, Donna Hilow and Dianne Arsenault; and four grandchildren, Melanie Aiken, Jamie Hilow, Keri Hotaling and Danielle Hilow.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Home Healthcare, Hospice & Community Services for their gentle and caring expertise.
Services for Ellen will be held privately by the family
