Fred was born on May 7, 1932, in Boston, MA, the third of four sons born to Fred and Quintina (Impeccini)) Iosue. Fred grew up in Everett, and after high school he enlisted in the US Navy for four years. He subsequently attended the University of Massachusetts where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Education followed by his Master’s Degree at Fitchburg College.
Fred took his first job as a physical education teacher in the Lincoln MA school system at the middle school level. He loved his job and, in fact, he was often known to say, “I’ve never worked a day in my life!” He met his wife to be, Nancy, while working together as physical education teachers in the same school system. As the story goes, they met at a school time lunch over a tuna fish sandwich and, despite Nancy’s initial impressions, Fred was able to win her over. They were married on April 15, 1961, and bought their house in Carlisle, Massachusetts. Soon after their son, Douglas was born, followed two years later by Darcy.
Fred continued his career, teaching middle school physical education at Hanscom Air Force base in Bedford, MA. Throughout his time in education, he also took on many other part-time jobs and ventures, including officiating soccer games at all levels, winter snow plowing, working construction and carpentry during the summer off-school season and even making and selling beautiful cupolas and weathervanes. Fred served on the school board and headed up the Recreation Commission in Carlisle. He organized and then oversaw the very successful and popular youth Rec basketball program. For many years, Fred was an active, involved and highly respected participant and leader in these, and other, town events, activities and initiatives.
Fred was always known as a hard-worker and a jack of all trades. In fact, Darcy coined the name, “Mr. Fix-It” and boasted over the years that “my daddy can fix anything!” Soon after marriage, Fred and Nancy purchased a lakeside plot of land in Francestown, NH. Over the next 10 or so years, Fred spent many hours, especially during his summers off, building their beautiful A-frame cottage on the lake. The family spent many years enjoying their summer place on Pleasant Pond until 1999, when they sold the property and purchased an oceanside condo in York, Maine. Fred continued his reputation as a handyman and enjoyed working on various home improvement projects on their unit as well as helping out their many friends at Joseph’s Way Condo. When he wasn’t working on a project, Fred enjoyed many of the simpler things in life: watching the Boston sports teams on TV; telling stories and playing jokes; playing rummy, hearts, “hand and foot,” parchesi and other card and board games with his children, grandchildren and many friends. Always quite competitive, it seems that Fred won more often than he lost.
Fred was always known as someone who loved to tell a good story. Over the years he loved to regale family and friends with his famous “Italy story.” Better yet, Fred always enjoyed scheming and playing a good practical joke on his friends and family. Most of all, Fred’s love, helpful nature, and strength will be greatly missed by all, including his son Douglas and his wife, Karen; his daughter Darcy; his grandchildren Tyler, his wife, Sarah and great-granddaughter, Annie; and Brodie, her husband, Dan and great granddaughter, Auden. Fred was predeceased by his wife, Nancy (Lloyd) and his brothers.
We would like to thank the outstanding staff at Covenant Living, who provided a wonderful community and cared for Fred over the past four years.
Burial will be in York, Maine at a future date to be determined. A Celebration of Life is planned at Covenant Living in Keene, 95 Wyman Road, Keene, NH on Saturday, January 9, 2027, at 1:00pm.
