Gary was born to Charles and Annie (Finch) Oke in Wellesley, Massachusetts. In the early 1980s, he and his wife, Rebecca M. Oke, moved their family north, where they built the life. The two were married for nearly 45 years, until Rebecca’s passing on May 26, 2024.
Together, Gary and Rebecca owned and operated the Mill Village Country Store for nearly 15 years. The couple’s hard work and warmth made it a fixture in the community. Gary’s story and his store were even featured in the New York Times. He also spent time working for FEMA, helping those in need find relief in some of their most difficult moments. It was work that reflected the generous spirit he carried through his life.
When Gary wasn’t working, he was the master tinkerer, always building, fixing, or improving something, and he especially enjoyed carpentry. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and shooter, happiest when he was outdoors. He was also a devoted Harley enthusiast. With their motor home in tow and their motorcycles loaded up, Gary and Rebecca rode all over the country together, exploring both the East Coast and the West Coast side by side.
Gary is survived by his eldest son, Robin F. Oke of Sullivan, NH, and his youngest daughter, Alyssa M. Oke of Oceanside, CA. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rebecca.
A gathering to celebrate Gary’s life will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro St, Keene, NH. All are welcome.
