
Born on August 28, 1922 in Troy, NH, son of Robert and Edith (Carter) Congdon, George attended Troy schools and completed his secondary education at New Hampton School in New Hampton, NH.
During World War II, George was accepted at the U. S. Merchant Marine Academy where he graduated in 1944 as a commissioned officer in the Maritime Service and the United States Navy. He served as a navigator on merchant ships in the European, Mediterranean and Southern Hemisphere areas.
In 1961, after self employment, he worked as World Sales Service Manager at MPB Corp., now a division of Timken, in Keene. Following 25 years at MPB, he formed Specialty Products International to export and import precision products used in manufacturing applications.
He was a member of the International Trade Center of New England, Keene Country Club and a communicant of St. Margaret Mary Parish of Keene.
Survivors include his son, David J. Congdon and daughter-in-law, Margot, and grandchildren, Caroline, George and Harry of Darien, CT, and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Congdon of North Hampton, NH. He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian (Rock), his son, Christopher, and granddaughter, Sara Lynne.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, February 1, 2013 at 11:00AM in St. Margaret Mary Church, 33 Arch Street, Keene. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Main Street, Keene. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene.
