Harold G "Bud" Black, Jr. 90, of 197 Gilsum Road, Keene, NH died at the Cheshire Medical Center-Dartmouth-Hitchcock after a period of failing health, with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Boston , MA on April 3, 1921 the son of Harold G. Black, Sr. and Josephine (Foohey) Black.
He relocated with his family to Westmoreland , NH where he attended local schools and later moved to Keene where he lived most of his life. He worked in the forestry industry and was a self employed logger for many years.
He was a WWII veteran and served with the US Army in the European Theater and was involved in the D Day Invasion at Omaha Beach in Normandy . He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, in addition to other medals for his service.
Harold was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed watching all of the New England Sports Teams and NASCAR on television. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and reminiscing with his lifelong friend Theodore V. "Teedum" Hollis. He was a member of Keene Post 799 VFW.
Survivors include his son Michael K. Black and his children, Katherine, Megan, and Amanda; his daughter, Susan L. Hart and her children, Zachary and Shannon; his son, Daniel G. Black and his children Ryan and Nicole; his son, Randall S. Black, and his daughter, Gail M. Marrotte and her children. Erika, Nicholas, and Tanner; two great grandchildren; Azelia and Ayla; two sisters; Gloria LaBarre and Virginia Champney and several nieces and nephews. His wife of nearly sixty years,Eleanor M. Black and a son Steven D. Black died earlier.
Graveside services will be held at the Centennial Cemetery , Gilsum , NH at a date and time to be announced in the spring. There are no visiting hours. The family suggest for those who wish, to make a contribution in Harold’s name to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, NH Chapter, PO Box 183 , Londonderry , NH 03053 .
