

He was born in Keene, June 23, 1920, the son of Jacob M. and Myrtie S. (Starkey) Hackler. He attended grade schools in Swanzey and graduated from Keene High School.
Mr. Hackler served in the US Army from 1941 until 1945 in the Pacific Theater achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.
On January 12, 1946, he married Rebecca M. Martin at the Swanzey Congregational Church.
Mr. Hackler was a member of the Cheshire Shrine Club and an Oriental Band member. He was also a 50 plus year member of the Masons. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Daley Whipple Post #799 and a member of the American Legion Post Gordon-Bissell Post #4.
He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and camping. Mr. Hackler was a huge Red Sox fan and watched every game including spring training games.
Mr. Hackler is survived by his wife of 65 years Rebecca M. Hackler of Keene; his sons Peter L. Hackler, and wife Rebecca, of Troy and Matthew E. Hackler, and wife Darla, of Boerne, TX; his daughters June F. Schmidt, and husband John, of New Smyrna, FL and Rosemary H. Morse, and husband Peter, of Keene; sister Harriett Carter, and husband Frank, of Swanzey; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren; plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services for Mr. Hackler will be held on Friday, November 4th, 2011, 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church of Swanzey, 679 Old Homestead Highway, Swanzey. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery in Swanzey. Calling hours will be on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Fletcher Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 33 Marlboro St., Keene, NH.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Roy Hackler’s name to the First Congregational Church of Swanzey, 679 Old Homestead Highway, Swanzey, NH 03446 or to the charity of one’s choice.
