He was born in Westminster, Vermont, February 2, 1931, the son of Ernest and Lucy (Thurber) Bemis. He grew up in North Charlestown, NH and attended schools in Charlestown.
Mr. Bemis moved to Keene in 1956 where he resided until moving to North Swanzey in 1966.
He worked for 27 years with Idlenot Dairy as a route driver and salesman. He later worked for 9 years as a route driver for Crowley Foods, retiring in 1993. Following retirement, he worked part-time at the former Shaw’s Supermarket in Keene.
He was a longtime member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Keene. Mr. Bemis enjoyed woodcutting as a hobby and also as his business.
He is survived by his children, Kenneth A. Bemis and his wife, Debra of Gordonsville, VA, Barton H. Bemis and his wife, Lynn, of Deerfield, NH, Jay Gauvin and his wife, Veronica, of Stratham, NH, Scott Gauvin and his wife, Patricia, and Todd Gauvin, both of Pensacola, FL; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Barton Bemis, Gordon Bemis, Hugh Bemis, Maynard Bemis, and two sisters, Barbara Goldsmith and Charlotte Lawrence.
A funeral service will be held Friday, May 23, 2014 at 3:00 PM in the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery, Old Homestead Highway (Route 32) Swanzey, NH.
