Irene Marie Ellis

Irene Marie Ellis, 86, a resident of Swanzey, New Hampshire, died peacefully at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, New Hampshire, on Wednesday, August 24, 2011, following a period of failing health.

She was born March 27, 1925, in Keene, New Hampshire, the daughter of Stanley, Sr. and Marie (Tacy) Rogers. On February 8, 1946, she married the love of her life, Earle J. Ellis. The two were married for 51 years and lived in Swanzey, where they raised their three children.

Irene loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of the ways that she would show her love for them was that she would make them baby quilts. She also enjoyed sewing and would make cloths for the girl’s dolls. Irene also loved animals: cats and dogs were very dear to her and supporting the Monadnock Humane Society was something she felt was very important. Her faith and her relationship with God was also something that was very important to her.

She is survived by her daughter: Sandra Ellis and her partner Cathy Burt of Venice, FL., her two sons: Dan Ellis and his wife Kathy of Stoddard, NH and Jim Ellis and his wife Rose of Keene, NH., thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, her two brothers: Stanley Rogers, Jr. and Harry Rogers.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at the family’s home, 1490 Route 123 North Stoddard, NH. 03464, on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Irene’s name to the Monadnock Humane Society, PO Box 678 West Swanzey, NH. 03469.
