Irene Marie Rouleau

She was born, in Keene, on March 18, 1928, the daughter of Harold and Hazel (Hale) Mathews. She attended area schools. Irene was a lifelong resident of Keene until March 2015 when she moved to Fitzwilliam to live with her daughter.

She married Norman Rouleau, of Troy, on April 23 1948, in a ceremony in Keene attended by family and friends.

Irene was an enthusiastic Bingo fan, enjoyed walking, reading, knitting, baking and was an adventurous traveler.

She was employed by Troy Mills for over 20 years. She later worked at American Optical and MPB both in Keene. She retired from MPB in 1990 at age 62. After her retirement she traveled extensively for several years, was a member of The Senior Shape Up Aerobic Class, a volunteer at the Humane Society, Keene Community Kitchen and Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

Known as Mom, Meme and Nana and matriarch of her family she enjoyed the Holidays and special family events and gatherings as they were her most beloved times. She was also very active with a large circle of friends she held very dear.

Survivors include her daughter Sheila (Rouleau) Goodell and her husband Edward Goodell of Fitzwilliam, grandchildren Tasha Goodell of West Chesterfield, Scott Goodell and wife Angela of Fitzwilliam, Ryan Goodell and wife Pepper of Keene, great-grandchildren Elizabeth Fletcher of Harrisville, Rachel Clark of West Chesterfield, Bella Goodell, Eddie Lambert Jr, Austin Goodell, Dylan Goodell of Keene; as well as several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Norman Rouleau passed in 1984. Her siblings, sister Martha Hale and brother Richard Mathews also passed earlier.

Calling hours will be held for family and friends on Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at the Fletcher Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held privately.
