Betty Jane Coffin, 79, of 60 Green Acres Road died Aug. 7, 2012 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon after a brief illness.
She was born in Keene on Nov. 27, 1932, daughter of Sentinel employee John E. Coffin Jr. (who co-owned the paper from 1945 to 1954) and Marion L. Kimball Coffin.
Janie graduated from Keene High School in 1950 and Middlebury College in 1954. She worked as a high school librarian in Rota, Spain from 1963 to 1973, then returned to Keene to care for her aged mother.
A member of the Keene Art Association, she liked to paint pictures of cats and landscapes. She also compiled a detailed family genealogy back to the Pilgrims.
Janie is survived by her brother, John E. Coffin III of Medfield MA, her nephews Eric Coffyn of Silver City NM and David Coffin of Milton NH, and her niece Cindy Coffin of Shutesbury MA.
Calling hours for Janie will be held at the Fletcher Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene, Monday morning from11:00 to 1 o'clock. Friends are invited. Services will follow at 1pm at the funeral home. The Reverend Gordon Ellis, Sr. Minister of the United Church of Christ in Keene will officiate. Burial will take place at the family lot in the Monadnock View Cemetery in West Keene.
