

Janet was born June 12, 1931, in Paterson, NJ, the daughter of Garret L and Wilhemina (Van Tol) Bakker. She was a 1949 graduate of East Side High School in Paterson, NJ. On December 1, 1951, she married the love of her life, Edward Harmon.
For more than thirty years Janet worked for the Hoover Company. She had a very strong faith and deep love for God and was a devoted member of the Keene Church of the Nazarene. Janet was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother. She was known among her family and friends for her homemade cookies, cakes, and pies. Janet also enjoyed being out in her community, spending time volunteering at Langdon Place of Keene was something that brought her great joy. She was able to spend time with the residents and maybe sing a few hymns with them or enjoy a homemade root-beer float. Her compassionate spirit ran over in all aspects of her life, from her love of people to her love of animals, especially her dog, “Scruffy.”
Janet is survived by her daughter: Debra Harmon of Swanzey, NH, her son: Edward G. Harmon and his wife Gail of Midland Park, NJ, three grandchildren: Kristin Sedgwick and her husband Keith, Michael Harmon and his fiancée Lauren, and Jonathan Harmon and his wife Alyson, her great-grandson: Jakob, her brother: Gerard L. Bakker and his wife Ann, her sister: Lynn Hoeffner and her husband Frank, and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Harmon.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH on July 28, 2014 , at 7:00pm. Family and friends are invited to call on the family from 5 to 7pm. Burial will be private.
Janet’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the loving care provided by Jessica and Michelle Hendelman, Suzanne Elliot and the staff at Life Choice Hospice.
Contributions may be made in Janet’s memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Northern New England Chapter, 114 Perimeter Road, Nashua, NH 03063, in honor of Andrew Elliot who was like a grandson to her.
