

Jean was born in Claremont, NH on July 22, 1927, the youngest of seven children of Lena A. (Rogers) and Palmer C. Read, Sr. and grew up on the family farm in Plainfield, NH.
She was a 1945 graduate of Windsor (VT) High School. She moved to Keene after graduation to attend Keene Teachers College.
Jean’s entire work career centered around education and working as an administrative secretary, first in the principal’s office at Keene Junior High School for six years, and then in the guidance department at Keene High School for 21 years, retiring in 1991.
She was a den mother for her son’s scout troop; President of the Wheelock School PTA; President of the Keene Educational Office Personnel; President of the South Western Educational Office Personnel; Publicity Chairwoman of the NH Educational Personnel; Certified Secretary of the National Education Personnel; and a member of the Keene Retired Education Association.
When not working at the schools, Jean enjoyed spending time with her husband, Robert and sons, Donald and Philip, watching their tennis matches, basketball games, and also the many Babe Ruth, Keene High School and Legion Baseball games. Her love of family and watching sporting events continued with her grandchildren playing soccer and basketball.
Jean loved to knit and cook. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and her many friends, and traveling with them to Wells, Maine, one of her favorite spots.
Most recently, while residing at Langdon Place, Jean enjoyed playing bingo; and absolutely enjoyed completing the adult coloring picture projects which she shared with her family and many friends at Langdon Place.
Many will miss her presence in the community, especially her son, Philip G. Hebert and his wife, Elaine, of Keene; her grandchildren, Kari Nguyen and her husband, Duy, of Merrimack, NH, Lacey Liebert and her husband, Elliot, of Little Nahant, MA, Amy Duguay and her husband, Andrew, of Tilton, NH, Kyle Hebert and his wife, Ingrid, of Keene, Michael Hebert of Swanzey, James Hebert and his wife, Lisa, of Keene; many great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Donna Hebert of Keene; and many nieces and nephews She was predeceased in 2005 by her husband of 57 years, Robert A. Hebert whom she married on September 13, 1947 in Lebanon, NH; a son, Donald R. Hebert in 2015; and her brothers and sisters, Palmer C. Read, Jr., Ada Smith, Phyllis Sutherland, Albert Read, May Atwood and Kate Gauthier.
A memorial mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 11:00AM in St. Bernard Church, 185 Main Street, Keene. Burial will be in the spring in St. Joseph Cemetery, Keene. There are no public calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Hebert’s memory to the Residents Activity Fund at Langdon Place of Keene, 136A Arch Street, Keene, NH 03431.
