

Margaret “Jean” Myers Mansfield, 81, of Spofford, New Hampshire and summer resident of Moultonborough, NH passed away on Friday afternoon, August 12, 2016 surrounded by her family, after a short period of declining health.
She was born in Danbury, CT on September, 19, 1934, the daughter of Homer J. Myers and his wife, Harriette Adelaide Vinson Myers and resided in Danbury through her school years. She graduated from Danbury High School in 1952 where she played the Base Viol and was a competitive field hockey player. After graduation, she attended Danbury State Teacher’s College and left college to be married and start a family.
Margaret Jean Myers married Wilbur Ezra Mansfield, Jr. on May 16, 1954 in a ceremony at The First Congregational Church in Danbury, CT. Margaret “Jean” Myers Mansfield is the grand daughter of John H. Vinson, one of the founding hat manufacturers of Danbury and the two families trace their heritage back to Revolutionary War era Danbury.
Jean Mansfield devoted her life to her husband, children and several volunteer services. She was an active member of The United Church of Christ in Keene, NH and worked in the administrative office of the church for over 10 years. In her younger years, she taught Sunday School and was a member of the First Congregational Church and the PTA in Monroe CT. Moving with her family to Cheshire CT, she was a Girl Scout leader and involved in The First Congregational Church. After moving to Spofford, she was a volunteer at the Chesterfield Public School library.
Her greatest passion was spending summers at her cottage on Lake Winnipesauke with her husband, family and close circle of friends. She enjoyed tennis, swimming and boating on the lake. Jean Mansfield loved to entertain her friends, read at the end of the dock, garden and decorate her home. She loved animals and always had a special place in her heart for her cats.
She is survived by her daughter: Donna J Mansfield of Glastonbury, CT; two sons, Keith A Mansfield of Spofford, NH and Scott D Mansfield of Greenwich, CT, and a sister-in-law, Carol Mansfield MacLenathen of Danbury, CT. She was predeceased in 2011 by her husband of 57 years, Wilbur Ezra Mansfield, Jr.
A private internment service will be held at the family plot in The Wooster Cemetery in Danbury, CT on August 19, 2016. There are no public calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at the United Church of Christ, 23 Central Square, Keene, NH, on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 1 PM. Family and friends are invited.
