Jack was born in Keene, New Hampshire, on July 26, 1936, to John Fairbanks Beal and Elizabeth (Symonds) Beal. He shared a particularly close bond with his stepfather, George Sawtelle, whom he regarded as his father.
Jack graduated from Keene High School and served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard in Keene, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He built a long and successful career at Markem Corporation. He was a Master Electrician and also launched his own business, Jack Beal Electric, LLC. Over the years, he took pride in mentoring apprentice electricians.
In retirement, Jack remained an active and engaged man. He spent many hours restoring old clocks, approaching each project with patience and care. In earlier years, he also took great pride in restoring antique Mustangs and attending car shows, where he enjoyed both the craftsmanship and the camaraderie. Each summer, he looked forward to time in Maine, a place that held special meaning for him. His quieter interests included model trains, western films, history and detective novels, and challenging puzzles that kept his mind sharp. Until quite recently, he maintained a routine of walking on his treadmill twice daily, reflecting his discipline and consistency.
Jack was known for his thoughtful conversations, particularly on subjects such as history, current events, and anything electrical. He was a man of deep integrity, guided by strong principles and a well-developed sense of humor. He valued doing things properly and approached life with both curiosity and conviction.
He was deeply loved by his family and especially cherished by his grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as “Bumpa.” They will remember him for his steady presence, his willingness to share his knowledge, and the genuine attention he gave to each of them.
Jack is survived by his wife of 37 years, Karen Beal; his brother, Richard Beal (Brenda); his sons, Scott Beal, Mark Beal (April), Jeffrey Beal (Sharen), Shawn Beal (Rhonda), and step-daughters, Maria Webb (David), and Lisa Brooks (Brian), and his nephews, Todd Beal and Kevin Beal. He will also be remembered by his grandchildren, Elyse Adams (Robert), Jonathan Beal (Felicia), Jordan Beal (Lacie), Patrick Beal, Jack Beal (Hailey), Matthew Beal (Jessica), Elaina Pace (Mackenzie), Randi Gragg (Adam), Lacy Hart (Shannon), Ryanne Wilder (Fred), and Cayli Webb; and also, his 15 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Keene Fire Department and the Cheshire Medical Center staff for the care and support they provided both to Jack and also the family.
A private burial and celebration of life service will be announced at a later date.
