John Joseph Furlone, 86, of Keene, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2026. Born in Keene on June 29, 1940, he was a lifelong resident of the Monadnock region and a proud graduate of Keene High School.
John served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. After returning home, he worked a variety of jobs that reflected his steady, hardworking nature. He began as a caddie at Spofford Golf Course, later ran printing presses at Ashuelot Valley Printing and A.E. Martel Co., and eventually retired from Miniature Precision Bearings (MPB) in Keene.
A true man of community, John was a longtime member of the Italian Society, the American Legion, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Knights of Columbus. Most of all, he was a devoted member of the Keene Elks Lodge for 62 years—a place that felt like a second home.
John found joy in the simple things. He loved golf, cribbage, and a good game of cards. He rooted for the Yankees, watched John Wayne westerns, read Louis L’Amour novels, and listened to Teresa Brewer and Frankie Yankovic. He was rarely without a cold A&W root beer or a flashlight close at hand. Jake’s 5 Star was one of his favorite local stops. For many years, John and his wife Diane spent happy summer weekends at their place in Ossipee—memories he held dear.
John married Diane in 1991. They shared 32 wonderful years together until her passing in 2023. He was predeceased by his brother George Furlone and his parents, Henry C. Furlone and Rosanna E. Furlone. He is survived by his sister, Catherine Garner of Brattleboro, Vermont, and many nieces and nephews.
He also leaves behind his “crew” at the Cleveland Building and his beloved “village” of friends at the Elks, along with extended family and the many people whose lives he touched through decades of community ties.
John will be remembered as a man with a heart of gold—someone who would give the shirt off his back without a second thought. He was sociable, generous, and deeply loyal to the clubs, simple pleasures, and people he held close.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Keene Elks Lodge 927, 81 Roxbury Street, Keene, NH 03431, on Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
