It is with great sadness that the family of Karl R. Boes announces his passing on March 20, 2019 at the age of 72 after a lengthy and determined battle with brain cancer.

Karl was born on June 20, 1946 in Holyoke, Massachusetts to Virginia and Karl H. Boes. In 1951 the family moved to Swanzey, NH, where Karl grew up enjoying track and football in his high school years. After graduating from Monadnock Regional High School in 1964, he attended Northampton Community College for a year before he left to work at National Grange Mutual Insurance, but in December. 1965 he was drafted into the military. After basic training he was stationed in Vietnam and Germany, until his honorary discharge in 1968.

After serving in the military, Karl realized his interest in real estate. He started with Strout Realty and soon became the youngest broker in NH, when he became president of Karl Boes Realty, with a successful office in Keene. As part of his life’s journey, he moved to New Jersey and Florida for several years where he also sold homes, time shares and cars. In the mid 1980’s he moved back to Keene where he worked for Coldwell Banker before he continued operating Karl Boes Realty out of his home he built in Swanzey. Not only did he sell land and homes but he also built and sold many modular homes. He had a passion for his job and enjoyed fulfilling the dreams of his customers.

Karl enjoyed traveling throughout his life and visited many locations around the world including Holland, Spain, Germany, Mexico, Costa Rica, St. Lucia and many other Caribbean locations. He had a passion for health and fitness and enjoyed skiing, golfing, cycling, swimming and running, and he even completed a triathlon at age 69. He had a big heart, always willing to help others and taking good care of his family. Being a grandpa to Alivia and Christian Ballin, who loved him dearly, was a very special and important role to him.

Karl will be deeply missed by his wife, Jenette Boes of Swanzey, NH, his daughter Michelle Ballin, her husband Daniel Ballin and Karl’s two grandchildren, Alivia and Christian.

Karl will also be missed by his loving family, which includes his mother, Virginia Boes of Troy, NH; his three siblings, Alice Sheldon of Port Charlotte, FL and her husband Wayne; Gary Boes of Swanzey, NH and his wife Laurie, and Lisa Boes of Keene, NH. I write this about Karl from the home he had built for us. We walked in the woods to set the stakes for exactly how the house would sit. It was so cool. He beat me by 11 minutes in a 5K at Stonewall Farm despite the fact I'm nearly 20 years younger. He bought a SUV from me. He always took the time to catch up at Market Basket. I enjoyed every interaction with him. Every time I drive past on Flat Roof Mill I'll remember him.

We will miss seeing Karl hike up and down our neighborhood road often accompanied by a very happy 'rescue' dog.

I am so sorry for your loss. Karl was a wonderful, caring person. We did some real estate together, but it is swimming with him at the YMCA, seeing him on the bike training , or out running on the roads of Swanzey that I will remember most about him

He will be missed.

Again, sorry for your loss.

My prayers go out to Karl's family and friends. I remember talking with Karl in 1970 about my going into the military. Then some 47 years later, I asked him to help me with the sale of my mothers house. Even though he had been undergoing medical treatments, he did a favor for an old friend
and took the listing. I felt like after so many years, he was still there to lend advice and help me during my time of need.
I sure all who knew him, will never forget him.

My heart aches for the Boes family because Karl became like family to my family. As bittersweet as this was I saw first hand that you were at peace and no longer suffering. I will miss our long talks of politics and health while drinking coffee and laughing with sarcasm of course! May you rest in peace and know that my family loved you very much Karl.
